Das Buch von Colin Renfrew und Paul Bahn bietet ein gutes archäologisches Grundwissen, dass sich nicht nur auf eine archäologische Disziplin beschränkt, was gleichzeitig auch der Nachteil dieses Buches sein kein.
Studenten die sich auf eine archäologische Disziplin beschränken würde ich es nur empfehlen, wenn sie auch außerhalb der Uni Interesse an den anderen Archäologien aufbringen. Für Studenten mit mehr als einer archäologischen Diziplin und natürlich für Fans der Archäologie ist das ein Buch, dass in keiner Sammlung fehlen darf.
Neben der Geschichte der Archäologie sind die Kapitel über die Datierungsmethoden, Kult und Religion und der Archäologie im Spiegel der Öffentlichkeit besonders interessant gestaltet. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt des Buches sind die Illustrationen und Tabellen, die das Textverständnis erleichtern, besonders für diejenigen, deren Englisch nicht immer ganz perfekt ist ;-) ...Kurzgefasst: kaufen
Archaeology: a book to inspire
This is probably one of the best books I've ever read on the subject, and although I've studied archaeology as an interest since childhood, this text rekindled an old love. It is well written and easily read and gives a good overview of the discipline with interesting archaeological sites from all over the world used to illustrate the techniques discussed. I enjoyed the volume so thoroughly I've actually read it twice and will probably read it again in the future just for the enjoyment alone.

Used as a textbook for a class in Liverpool, this book was the perfect companion. Invaluable to those just starting in the subject and those who have been studying archaeology for years. Good use of illustrations and modern examples. One of the most up-to-date books on the subject.
