PCT, Spin and Statistics, and All That (Princeton Landmarks in Mathematics & Physics (Paperback))
 | von Raymond F. Streater
ISBN: 0691070628 | An classic piece of quantum field theory literature In recent times theoretical high energy physics has become more and more complicated, with buzzwords like M theory, superstrings and duality all over the literature. This work is focused on actually *proving theorems*, instead of making conjectures. It was written in the 60's, so only non-gauge theories are treated. The main part of the book is a proof of the famous CPT theorem, which states that "charge conjugation + parity inversion + time reversal" is an exact symmetry, as a consequence of relativistic quantum field theory and the relation between spin and statistics. The book contains an introduction to the mathematical tools needed. No fancy stuff here. The mathematics is mainly hard-boiled functional analysis and a bit of group theory. If you wish to understand quantum field theory, this book is a must read. It is excellently written. A true classic of its genre. The reissue is a great idea, and I hope that a lot of people will read this book. Siehe auch:| > PCT, Spin and Statistics, and All That (Princeton Landmarks in Mathematics & Physics (Paperback)) |
