Chung has been involved in polymer extrusion and melt rheology for the last 38 years, 11 years as an industrial engineer and the past 27 years as a professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has authored over 100 papers and holds 12 patents. He was made a fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers in 1985.
