Financial Times Ranking: HHL's full-time MBA No. 1 in Germany and No. 34 in Europe07.12.2009 - (idw) Handelshochschule Leipzig
Leading Germany: Full-time MBA Program at
HHL - Leipzig Graduate School of Management tops Financial Times ranking
HHL has arrived in the international league of business schools. Appearance for the first time in the Financial Times' "European Business Schools" ranking, HHL's full-time program was rated top in Germany and a thoroughly respectable 34th in Europe in the 2009 table, ahead of a number of renowned business schools.
The FT ranking is seen by industry experts as the most comprehensive and meaningful league table of executive education in Europe. The overall table is an aggregate of the separate rankings for MBA, M.Sc., EMBA and Executive Education in 2009, evaluations which are based on the salaries and career paths of graduates as well as the structure, internationality and research profile of the schools.
"We're a newcomer in this important ranking table, and so we're delighted with the result. It's a milestone in our "HHL 2020" strategy in which we've set ourselves the goal of becoming one of Europe's top 10 business schools by the year 2020. We're growing HHL steadily as part of the strategy, doubling student numbers, expanding the number of chairs and competence centers and, of course, extending the range of executive education we offer," says Prof. Dr. Hans Wiesmeth, Dean of HHL.
Prof. Dr. Torsten Wulf, the Academic Director of HHL's MBA Programs, underlines the full-time course's strengths: "Seventy percent of MBA students at HHL come from outside Germany. That means we're much more international than our European or American competitors. The content and discussions in the courses are so much more global in perspective because of that, and differences between cultures can be addressed in a much more authentic way. That's very important for HHL's approach, as our full-time MBA has been focused on teaching management and leadership skills in a global context right from the start. On top of that, our curriculum is not organized according to function any more. Instead, we've structured it according to management challenges (managing investors, managing society, managing customers, and so on) and we offer solutions to these challenges from a cross-functional perspective. There are just a few business schools in the US with similar structures, but none in Europe."
American student James B. Downs is currently enrolled in HHL's full-time MBA Program, and enthuses about his school's success in the FT-ranking: "Way to go, HHL! I was born in the "home of the MBA" but I'm totally satisfied with the education I'm getting at Germany's oldest business school. It's not just that I can get an MBA degree from an AACS-accredited university for a much better deal, there's also a professional, internationally-connected career service and an alumni association which will open up career perspectives for me and link me into an international network after I graduate."
