PRESS INVITATION - IMPRS SYMPOSIUM in Munich09.11.2010 - (idw) Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik
What connects physics to neurobiology? What is the role of science in society? How can laser physics be used in medicine and environmental science? These are the kind of questions that will be discussed at the 3rd annual Interdisciplinary Symposium New Frontiers in Science which will be held in Munich, on November 11, 2010 at the MPI of Physics, and on November 12, 2010 in the Main Auditorium of the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität Munich.
The symposium is organized by doctoral students from the International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) for Advanced Photon Science (Garching), Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences (Martinsried) and Optics and Imaging (Erlangen). Furthermore it is supported by the Max Planck Society and leading optics companies around the world: Coherent, Carl Zeiss AG, Hamamatsu Photonics, Qioptiq, and Menlo Systems GmbH.
Renowned scientists from various countries and scientific disciplines will present state-of-the-art research in physics, neurobiology, and medicine to a broad scientific and non-scientific audience. This years programme focuses on the sustainability of our energy supplies and on biodiversity. Additionally, there will be a panel discussion on Thursday, Nov. 11, exploring the role of science in society. Among the confirmed speakers for Friday, Nov. 12, are Nobel laureate Prof. Wolfgang Ketterle (MIT) as well as the Leibniz laureates Prof. Friedrich Simmel (TUM) and Prof. Ferenc Krausz (MPQ, LMU).
We cordially invite you to participate in this symposium. The event is free of charge and open to the public. No registration is required.
