CB Bhattacharya takes fresh approach to stakeholders in new book on Corporate Responsibility

05.10.2011 - (idw) European School of Management and Technology (ESMT)

In the newly published book Leveraging Corporate Responsibility: The Stakeholder Route to Maximizing Business and Social Value, ESMT Dean of International Relations and E.ON Chair in Corporate Responsibility CB Bhattacharya and his co-authors Sankar Sen and Daniel Korschun identify the psychological levers behind stakeholder expectations and responses to CR activities. They systematically explain how and when CR activities fulfill their promise of doing well by doing good for people, planet and profit. Based on empirical studies conducted by the authors and other industry experts, the book offers practical advice for current and future managers on designing effective CR programs, communicating these programs in order to foster stakeholder commitment, and measuring the effects.

CR has never been more important than now, explained CB Bhattacharya. But companies have to be strategic in their efforts. We wrote this book to give managers a roadmap to make CR relevant for their stakeholders and to maximize the value of their CR investments.

Leveraging Corporate Responsibility should be required reading in the global C-Suite, said John Elkington, co-founder of SustainAbility and Volans Ventures and originator of the triple bottom line. It identifies both the psychological levers driving stakeholder behavior and the business responses that result in loyalty and commitment.
