On-board power supply with fuel cells

Liquid gas-fuelled system enables standalone, off-grid power supply Freely travelling through the countryside with the mobile home, as and when it suits them, is a very popular leisure activity for modern, recreational nomads. People stop where the landscape and weather pleases them, but would nevertheless like to have mobile accommodation with comforts similar to home. However, fridges, TVs, lighting and air conditioning systems require electricity, which remote from all grids is expensive and difficult to obtain. The BINE-Projektinfo brochure On-board power supply with fuel cells (10/2011) presents a newly developed on-board fuel cell system that provides mobile homes, boats and holiday chalets with the desired comfort.

This mobile fuel cell uses liquid gas as the fuel. Thanks to the established liquid gas infrastructure, the fuel cell supply is ensured almost everywhere. The fuel cell unit is operated together with the battery as a hybrid system and can equally cope with continuous or brief usage or periods of inactivity lasting for months. The manufacturer expects electricity generation costs of around EUR/kWh 0.5, depending on the price of the liquid gas. Such an electricity price is certainly highly competitive in the camping site and outdoor sector. Daily operation between one and four hours is enough to meet the standard electricity needs of a mobile home.

Fuel cell systems do not give off any harmful exhaust fumes and are very quiet. They therefore provide an alternative to conventional electricity generating and storage options and produce electricity that is two to five times more efficient than when combining combustion engines and alternators.
