New HHL Student Initiative Improves Perception of Start-Up Financing29.04.2014 - (idw) HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management
With the HHL Venture Capital Club (http://www.vcc-hhl.de) students interested in entrepreneurship learn about investment philosophies, the current market environment and the decision-making processes of capital providers, enabling them to prepare for their own financing process in an optimal way. Events in May and June 2014
With over 150 start-ups established by HHL alumni over the past fifteen years, Germany's top address for young managers has also developed into an incubator for company creation. Just at the end of last year, Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Founder's Association for German Science) honored HHL as one of the leading entrepreneurial universities in Germany. New impetus now comes from the HHL Venture Capital Club (VCC) student initiative. Founded in October 2013 with the support of HHL Professor Dr. Stephan Stubner, the club offers HHL students deep insight into the financing of start-ups and small businesses. Prof. Stubner says, "HHL is not only an incubator for the innovative foundation of enterprises, among our alumni we have a large number of business angels and professional investors as well. Therefore, I see a great opportunity for HHL students to prepare their own financing process in an optimal way or examine alternative career options by exploring an investor's perspective."
Andrej Dubrovskij, who is currently completing the Master in Management (M.Sc.) Program at HHL, comments on the goals of the VCC, "Our students initiative seeks to familiarize HHL students with the topic of venture capital through special classes. Experienced investors give lectures of practical relevance, explaining their view of investment philosophies, the current market environment and the decision-making processes. The students will also have the opportunity to take on the role of an investor and make specific investment decisions with a practical relation through case studies. Additionally, HHL professors from the fields of strategy, finance and entrepreneurship will share their knowledge and experience."
According to Andrej Dubrovskij, who is the club's spokesperson, the VCC is already very popular among the HHL students from all classes thanks to the high practical relation, the knowledge transfer and an interactive platform: "The organizing team already has twelve members and more than 30 participants have signed up for each of the events."
Against this background, the Venture Capital Club is looking forward to welcoming two guest speakers on May 6. Mischa Wetzel, Senior Investment Manager at Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB), and Hans-Philipp vom Ende, HHL alumnus and Investment Analyst at Holtzbrinck Digital, will provide practical insight in the current market situation of the entertainment and creative industry, an attractive field for future entrepreneurs. The discussions will deal with the differences of so-called seed and mid-stage funding for young companies among other things.
The Venture Capital Club will also present itself to a broader audience of renowned investors, entrepreneurs and established companies at the first HHL International Investors Day on June 18, 2014. http://www.hhl.de/investorsday
