40th FEBS Congress 2015 The Biochemical Basis of Life

09.02.2015 - (idw) Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie e.V.

The German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) joins forces with the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) to organize the 40th FEBS Congress from Saturday July 4th to Thursday July 9th, 2015, at the Estrel Convention Center in Berlin, Germany.
With this joint congress covering the entire spectrum of molecular life sciences, GBM and FEBS expect to bring together a wide range of researchers from all across Europe and further afield to explore The Biochemical Basis of Life. Registration and abstract submission are possible via the congress website, http://www.febs2015.org.
Please note the Early Bird Deadline for reduced conference rates is March 12th!
To support participation of young scientists, a large number of bursaries are available.
The Deadline for Bursary Applications is March 2nd!

The organizing team around Prof. Volker Haucke (FMP, Berlin) has created an outstanding scientific program for the Congress. Plenary speakers include Nobel Laureate Randy Schekman (Berkeley), Xiaowei Zhuang (Harvard), Jürgen Knoblich (IMBA, Vienna), Susan Lindquist (Whitehead Institute), Barbara Meyer (Berkeley), Sarah Teichmann (Cambridge), Alberto Kornblihtt (Buenos Aires), Nikolaus Pfanner (Freiburg), Matthias Mann (MPI Martinsried) and Caroline Dean (Norwich). The full speaker list is available at http://www.febs2015.org.

In addition, there will be special sessions and plenary discussions, e.g. on the future of scientific publishing, women in science, science & society, careers and education, as well as the Young Scientists Forum (YSF) immediately preceding the congress to promote interactions between pre- and post-doctoral scientists.

The Congress will offer ample opportunities for fruitful discussions, as well as the possibility to initiate collaborations and joint projects.

About GBM

With about 5300 members from institutes of higher education, research centers, and industry the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie, GBM) is the leading body of bioscience experts in Germany.
The GBM represents the interests of all who work and research in the dynamic and promising disciplines combining chemistry, medicine, and biology from first year students to heads of institutes, from junior scientists to Nobel Prize winners and promotes research and teaching, the implementation of scientific findings in biotechnology and medicine, and their publication.
The international GBM meetings are a platform for sharing information on the latest developments in molecular biosciences with leading experts on the represented sectors. The network of contacts extends to all German universities and a large number of major research centers.

About FEBS

The Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) has become one of Europe's largest organizations in the molecular life sciences, with over 36,000 members across more than 35 biochemistry and molecular biology societies (its 'Constituent Societies') in different countries of Europe and neighbouring regions. FEBS thereby provides a voice to a large part of the academic research and teaching community in Europe and beyond. As a charitable organization, FEBS promotes, encourages and supports biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, molecular biophysics and related research areas in a variety of ways, with an emphasis in many programmes on scientific exchange and cooperation between scientists working in different countries, and on promotion of the training of early-career scientists. The FEBS website provides an overview of current aims and work: http://www.febs.org
