HHL Students Organize Energy Conference Entitled "Decentralized Energy" on May 11 and 12, 201516.02.2015 - (idw) HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management
Students from all over Germany may apply via http://www.hhlenergyconference.com up to March 15, 2015
The 5th HHL Energy Conference entitled "Decentralized Energy Finding Solutions to a Global Challenge" will take place at Germany's HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management on May 11 and 12, 2015. Students will exchange views on current topics in the energy sector with representatives from the industry, politics and science during the event. Esteemed representatives will present the latest trends in the energy industry. Students may apply up to March, 15, 2015, at www.hhlenergyconference.com to compete in a case study competition during the conference which includes monetary prizes amounting to EUR 3,500 in total. The students will receive free board and lodging as well as Deutsche Bahn train tickets for travel in second class.
Among the event partners are companies such as Siemens Management Consulting, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, MIBRAG, E.On, CTG, EnviaM, MITGAS and Squeaker. Building on the success of the previous HHL Energy Conferences, this year's program once again includes various presentations given by experts as well as networking events in addition to a panel discussion. "We would like to give the HHL Energy Conference a more international face in the long run; therefore all the events on the program will be held in English this year. At the same time we will continue the well-established and successful concept of exchanging views between the fields of economy, research and politics," says Gerrit Suhlmann, HHL student and head of the 5th HHL Energy Conference.
HHL Energy Conference brings together students with representatives from the economy and politics
The two-day conference aims to discuss the latest developments in the energy sector, show new perspectives and debate practical implications. A special focus is on the possible solutions developed by the student teams in the course of the case study competition, which will be assessed by a high-caliber panel of judges. HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management offers ideal conditions for networking between the representatives from science, politics and the economy joining the conference and the students within the framework of the energy cluster of the Leipzig region
For the first time ever, international students have been invited to join the event as well. In doing so, the initiators of the HHL Energy Conference would like to promote networks amongst interested students. All discussions and presentations will therefore be held in English. The case study competition by Roland Berger to be handled by the students comes with a monetary prize of EUR 2,500 for the winner (EUR 1,000 for second place).
The challenges of decentralized energy
The Internet is a prime example for the momentum of networking effects. The decentralized generation of knowledge and goods may be transferred to the energy sector as well. Photovoltaics, geothermal energy and smart grid represent just a small part of the technologies allowing for a change toward the 'prosumer' and therefore decentralized energy generation. The implication of such a trend and its effects on the energy infrastructure are topics to be discussed at the 2015 Energy Conference.
HHL Energy Club organizes the HHL Energy Conference
The HHL Energy Conference is organized by students who are currently completing an MBA or M.Sc. program at HHL and who have created an initiative never seen before in Germany by establishing the HHL Energy Club. The activities of the student initiative include organizing the annual HHL Energy Conference, discussion rounds with industry experts and field trips to various companies and institutions in the energy sector.
The energy industry, also represented by a cluster of the City of Leipzig, offers numerous opportunities to start careers and establish businesses. Therefore, the founding of the HHL Energy Club also provides impetus for the development of the region. This particularly applies with regard to Leipzig's desire to become one of Europe's prominent energy metropolises.
