Anthony W. Gummer has been elected a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America

Anthony W. Gummer, Ph.D., university professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine at the Tübingen University, has been elected a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America. The fellowship acknowledges his contributions to understanding the mechanics of mammalian and avian cochleae.
The Acoustical Society of America, founded in 1929, is the premier international society in acoustics, dedicated to increasing and diffusing the knowledge of acoustics and its practical implications ( http://asa.aip.org/ ). The activities of its 7,000 members cover the entire spectrum of acoustics, including physiology and medicine.
Gummer's research, extending back to his Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Western Australia, has focused on how sound is transformed into mechanical vibrations of the ear, amplified in the cochlea and then encoded in the auditory nerve and brain stem.
In his last 14 years at the University of Tübingen, Gummer and his research group have concentrated on cell biological, biophysical and nanomechanical aspects of amplification in the cochlea.
